Abstrac:In quantum mechanics, the direction of the flow of probability density is not necessarily the same as that of momentum. One manifestation of this counter-intuitive fact is the so-called quantum backflow effect, in which the probability of finding a particle "on the left" increases with time despite the particle's momentum pointing "to the right." In my talk, I will review the quantum backflow effect and show its relation to other physical situations characterized by classically forbidden probability flow.
