Job description:

University of Gdansk invites applications from PHYSICAL CHEMISTS, specialists in gas chromatography and photocatalysis for the position type of PhD student or PostDoc in the LIDER XI project "One solution for two topical problems: advanced organic materials for OLEDs and hydrogen photogeneration"

Participation in this project is a unique opportunity to do research for solutions of current problems in optoelectronics and energy industry, but also to be part of a team of ambitious and helpful young researchers. The aim of the project is to develop and optimize parameters of organic materials which can be used as emitters in organic light emitting diodes (OLED) and as photosensitizers in photocatalytic systems producing hydrogen from water. Finally, project aims to bring the above-mentioned organic materials to the market.

Requirements:

• Meeting the requirements of the Regulations of the LIDER XI program competition: persons who, by 01.01.2020, were under 35 years of age (with the exceptions listed in the above Regulations);

• Work experience in the field of gas chromatography and/or (photo)catalysts or (photo)sensitizers of chemical processes in aqueous solutions.

• Good knowledge of the basics of gas chromatography and/or the principles and mechanisms of catalysis and photosensitization; knowledge of the basics of photophysics or photochemistry of organic compounds.

• Completed MA studies in the discipline of Chemistry or Physics or related sciences;

• Good English language skills;

• Conscientiousness and reliability, accuracy, creativity, high learning skills, the ability to plan and organize experimental work independently;

• Ability to work in a team, strong motivation and enthusiasm for research and further scientific career.

Description of tasks:

• Active participation in the research work under the project, namely in the design and investigations of organic systems for photocatalytic hydrogen production from water:

o Preparation of mixtures of photosensitizers in the aqueous phase (nanoparticles, micelles, etc.) and testing their spectral and electrochemical properties;

o Preparation of (photo)organic catalysts according to literature procedures;

o Conduction of experiments on the emission quenching;

o Adjustment of "photosensitizer-catalyst" systems;

o Investigations of the kinetics of hydrogen photogeneration, data analysis, calculations of the efficiency of photocatalytic systems

• Handling and operation of gas chromatograph and sunlight simulator;

• Interpretation and analysis of own results, preparation of periodic reports in accordance with the established rules of the research team;

• Participation in the preparation of publications / patent applications.
